The Great Röstlabor Caffeine Analysis

We admit it, but you've known it all along: We love to talk about our espressos. About subtle aromas, about the graceful texture of the crema, about shades of brown that we'd love to paint the whole world with, about scents that awaken tender feelings, about…

"Stop!" you say now. "Enough! Get to the point, guys!"

You're right. Sometimes you should focus on the core of the matter.
Meaning: on caffeine.
Because caffeine makes your wild shaking subside after your first morning espresso. And ensures it returns after the fifth.

But seriously: Caffeine can have significant effects on your body and your health. These are mainly positive. Above all, its stimulating effect on metabolism, and thus on the heart, stomach, intestines, blood pressure, and muscles, has long been proven to offer benefits.
However, sometimes it's too much. Then you might get heartburn and heart palpitations, or you feel nauseous and your pulse races. Sleep disorders and a persistent feeling of weakness can also be related to excessive caffeine consumption.

So, like everything, it's all about the amount.
But what amount is good varies greatly from person to person. Therefore, we cannot tell you how many of which of our espressos you should drink as a health-promoting measure, or from how many onwards all liability is disclaimed.
It's much better if you make this assessment for yourself, because – like all Röstlabor customers – you are an intelligent and reasonably mature person.
However, so that you can analyze and control your own caffeine consumption, we have analyzed all our espressos for their caffeine content. Below you will find our test results, including details on the test method. We suspect that most people would benefit from one or two more cups a day. But hey, see for yourself.

How much caffeine does my Röstlabor Espresso have?

Espresso analyzed using a spectrometer

For comparison:
Energy Drink
80 mg Caffeine / 250ml Can
Cola
25 mg Caffeine / 250ml Glass

How we tested:

We extracted two espressos with exactly 18 grams of ground coffee (2x 25ml = 9g powder/25ml). The extraction time was exactly 23 seconds each.

We repeated this several times to see if there were any deviations (hardly any) and to calculate a representative average.

We ground the beans with the Eureka Specialty65 and prepared the espressos with the La Marzocco GS3.

Afterwards, we analyzed them with the Lighttells CA-700 using a spectrometer and measured the caffeine content.
